The Book Blogger Insider Tag: Stalkerish Information About My Book Blogging and Reviewing Life!

The #1 thing you should know about me is that I suck at keeping track of blog tags.

I KNOW I KNOW. I’m horrible. People take the time to tag me or nominate me for an award (!!!) and I just… forget.

But seriously, unless you pingback me, I will likely forget that you’ve tagged me for something??? And I probably won’t remember your pingback either, unless you pingback my About page oops.

HOWEVER! I was going through the comments/pingbacks of said About page, in search for a nice tag to do because WHY NOT, and I found this one!

The lovely Beth @ Reading Every Night tagged me for The Book Blogger Insider Tag, and I remembered being super excited when I read her post, because 1) her answers were awesome, and 2) THE TAG LOOKED COOL.

And this month, it seems like my theme has been sharing my secrets (about my post-planning and -writing process, and my secrets for success), so why not carry on with this tag???

arrow 1

So today, I’ll be sharing some insider information on my (book) blogging life by answering the questions of the tag. I promise you’ll learn things you NEVER knew about me before.

Thank you sooooo much to Beth again, and please, check out her blog! It is amazing and she is one of my very close blogging friends. <333

where do you typically write your blog posts?

At my computer???

I honestly don’t know. My computer used to be downstairs in the dining room, but then I moved it upstairs??? Now I don’t have an actual chair but a beanbag, which is COMPLETELY fine with me.

I also sometimes write my blog posts on my phone in the Notes app, but that’s on the occasion that I didn’t write it on the computer because I was procrastinating. (Which is actually quite a lot of the time???)

Anywhere where I have access to something I can write on basically. I’m quite flexible.*

*Watch me do them splits yo.

how long does it generally take you to write a book review?

I honestly don’t know??? It’s never taken me more than 30 minutes to write a review, though I think I’ve come close to it.

But I’m honestly just waiting for that ONE DAY where I hate a book so much that I just have to rant forever about it. :’)

when did you start your book blog?

January 22, 2017! So I’ve been blogging for a little over… 8 MONTHS NOW WOW OMG. It seems so long yet so short??? 4 MORE MONTHS TILL A YEAR GASP.

But actually, I’d wanted to start a blog since late December, so it took me a month of preparing and just overall being unconfident until I FINALLY made my blog.

what is the worst thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

Oh, definitely how much time and effort it takes. You know what bloggers have to do??? They have to WRITE posts, COMMENT on posts, ANSWER comments, and much more. It just takes so much tiiiiiiime.

I take at least an hour and a half to write and format my posts. And then commenting on posts? That takes a while too, especially if you follow lots of blogs. (And you have to do it EVERY DAY.)

And answering comments! I LOOOOOVE getting comments on my posts, but when you have a lot, that means you have a lot to type up replies to, WHICH TAKES TIME.

Add that plus school and homework and dance and piano and reading and writing, and I’m 1) out of time, 2) stressed, and 3) wanting to crawl into a hole and rot there forever because why @ life.

what is the best thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

DEFINITELY THE COMMUNITY. The community is absolutely WONDERFUL, and it’s what makes blogging worth it!

I know that on Goodreads, there are (A LOT OF) trolls and haters, but in the blogosphere??? THEY’RE PRACTICALLY NONEXISTENT. Everyone here is kind, sweet, supportive, and, when disagreeing with someone, polite.

Plus, I’ve made some AMAZING friends in these eight months of blogging! And any comments I get, short or long, means SO much to me because wow you actually want to talk to ME??? Talk about #FLATTERED.

I would name some friends I’ve made buuuut I’ve made so many. :’) I’m such a friendly person omg!!!

what blog post have you had the most fun writing so far?

Look, I barely remember what I wore yesterday* so how am I expected to remember the posts I wrote???

Um, well the Get to Know Me Tag was really fun to do, and I also enjoyed writing/ranting about diversity in books. Writing about my post-planning/-writing process was actually super fun as well.

Oh! I definitely enjoyed answering the questions for my 6-month blogiversary Q&A, and celebrating my 6-month blogiversary was very fun as well… (I mean I’M CELELBRATING HERE how could it not be fun???)

Also if you don’t click on these posts immediately all my looking-at-fetus-May suffering will have been for NOTHING.

get to know me  diversity in books  blogging process  q&a  6 month blogiversary

*Okay so maybe not because my SCHOOL HAS UNIFORMS UGH but yeah don’t expect me to remember what I’m wearing RIGHT NOW.

what is your favorite type of blog post to write?

OH THIS IS EASY. I love love LOVE writing discussions! There’s something so enjoyable about writing about a topic that others can discuss with you. I love talking about my opinion*, and I also love hearing YOUR opinions!

Plus discussions open up a lot of interaction, and tbh I live for that interaction. (I live a sad life.)

Oh, and I also loooooove lists. I might have an obsession with them. But seriously they’re so great??? You LIST things and then you elaborate and it’s just lots of fun. :’) Sometimes I feel like I do too many lists??? But no that is impossible.

the fact that A GIF LIKE THIS EXISTS crack me up omg appreciate this

*Haughty much, May.

when do you typically write?

Well, my posting schedule is Mon/Wed/Sat, so I have to start writing the posts one or two days before it’s posted. At least I should.

I normally write my posts during the day (on the weekends), in the evening (on weekdays), or late at night (…everyday). THE LATE AT NIGHT ONE ISN’T A VERY GOOD DECISION, thus why I am getting less than 8 hours of sleep.*

I just write whenever, okay??? As long as I post it on the assigned day, I’m good. Like I said, I’m VERY FLEXIBLE.

*It sounds like a lot, but I need at least 9 to fully function and do I get that??? No.

do you review every book you read?

Yes I do! I used to write short lists for some of the books I read, but now I just want to write full reviews because 1) it’s fun once you get going, and 2) I can actually REMEMBER THE BOOKS I READ!!!

Unless I write the review like… three weeks after I read the book. This is currently me PLEASE HELP OMG.

Also this is probably not wise of me to review all the books I read??? Because Time I hath not seeneth. BUT LIKE WHATEVER.

how do you write your book reviews? with a cup of coffee or tea? with netflix? cuddled with your fur baby?

I’m a sad little Maychild and I just write book reviews without anything special.

Image result for i'm such a sad person gif

when do you write your book reviews? right after finishing the book? two weeks after finishing the book?

I used to write reviews right after I finished the book or later that day, but now… it’s like two/three weeks after I’ve read the book that I FINALLY force myself to write the review.

Want a pro tip??? DON’T BE ME.

Seriously, review the book as soon as you can. Especially if you have a horrible memory like me !!! Because you will regret it if you DO NOT WRITE THE REVIEW IMMEDIATELY. You’ll procrastinate and forget the book and it turns into this huge endless cycle.

Currently I have six reviews I need to write and yikes why did I do this to myself. SO MANY REGRETS.

how often do you post?

Three times a week! Like I said, I post Mon/Wed/Sat (for the people who didn’t know that yet smh why aren’t you a stalker). I honestly might tone it down just for school because I’ve totally forgotten how to balance school with blogging WHOA.

But I don’t know I just really like my posting schedule??? I’m weirdly fascinated with it. I love it. I will actually marry it one day. Someone please make me normal.

These are just some people who I’ve recently followed (and because I’m getting stricter with that, there aren’t that many), along with some close friends of mine whose answers I’d love to see! Aka DO IT OR ELSE.

But if I didn’t tag you and you want to do it, please feel free to! Just because I didn’t tag you doesn’t mean you can’t do it. :))

  1. Best thing about having a blog: When I have something to post.
Worst thing about having a blog: When I don’t have something to post (because I’m in a never-ending writer’s block ugggghhhhhhh even with Scribbler’s Challenge… such misfortune has befallen me…)

Oh and yes of COURSE this is a food blog!!! All that talk about mangoes???? xD

    Nice post, May!

  2. Best thing about having a blog: I don’t want to sound unoriginal, but I TOTALLY agree that it’s the fabulous community – everyone is so kind! Also, I adore this kind-of proud feeling I get after publsihing a post! Ahhh – it IS SO satisfying! 😍😍
Worst thing about having a blog: Probably not having enough time to write much posts, read other bloggers posts, comment, answer to comments and all that! You’re right – blogging is definitely time consuming and takes a lot of effort…but it’s worth it, right? 😂😂

Yessss – it’s a food blog and a book blog and a lifestyle blog and all types of blogs! 🙈🙈 I currently want to devour a plate of chocolate fudge cake! Mmmmm – delicious! 😋😋 #hungry #dreams #food

TIME IS SUCH A HUGE ISSUE AGAGAHH. But you're right, it's definitely worth it in the end! There are so many rewards from blogging, gosh. ❤

Chocolate fudge cake sounds SO GOOD WHY DID YOU HAVE TO TELL ME ABOUT IT. 😭

  3. The best thing about having a blog is definitely completing the posts I have planned, lol! I’m a big scheduler and feel a desperate need to keep to it… which is NOT always successful but I’m working on it… I thought I wrote reviews fast but under 30 minutes is really good… And I won’t even say how long a post takes me to setup and write, lol… ❤ Fun seeing you do a tag May!! It would be cool to see you do a book tag too someday 🙂 I'm sure others besides me would like to know obscure books you love, lol…

  4. Hi! I loved this post. What theme did you use for your blog? I’ve been having trouble with the design of my blog, so whenever I see a blog I like, I’m asking what theme they used.

  5. Great answers for this tag May, I loved reading them and learning more about your blogging life and schedule! I am totally in awe of how much you have to get done in a day, and the fact that on top of school and dancing and piano you manage to blog as well. Seriously how do you get it all done? Also how do you write your reviews in 30 minutes? I need to know your secrets. 🙂
It feels like you should have been blogging longer than eight months, seriously your blog is amazing, and the community is definitely the best part in my opinion as well.
Again great answers for this tag! 😀 ❤

    1. I’m in awe of myself too! 😂 I honestly don’t know how I manage it… I sacrifice quite some sleep at times so I guess that’s my secret? 😜 OMG IS 30 MINUTES SHORT??? I actually don’t know if that’s accurate but it SEEMS about right. I’m a fast typer too haha. 😂

AWW THANK YOOOU. :’) It feels like I’ve been here for longer than 8 months, yeah!

      1. I like to think of myself as a fast writer, but it still takes me a long time to write some of my posts. I think the longest is two hours but that’s my Reading Around the World posts and that’s just because of the photo editing side of things.
That’s all right, here’s hoping you’ll be here for much longer as well. 🙂 ❤

  6. I am proud to say I write my review 0.456788 seconds after I finish my book so THERE. Except if i finish at night then SCREENS and EYEBALLS so I have to wait till the morning and the sun and all the other sappy stuff. #rude. It takes me 15 mins to write my review at the most! They don’t take that long…unless um WELL PROCRASTINATION.I just write at my laptop? yeah pretty normal. BUT I HATE WRITING ON LE PHONES. Just can’t *twitches*I LOVE writing discussions and monthly recaps! ALL THE FUNNN ❤ AND LIIISSST! Of course, you know my blogging schedule (*glares*) YAY FOR 8 MONTHS! you're the most amazing bean!!! Blogging takes a lot of effort but COMMUNITY IS FANTASTIC! beasts where to find them. My posts take aggggeeeeeeeesss to write SAME. I love your fantasy vs. contemporary post the best i think! 1. YOU’RE SO LUCKYYYYYYYYYY. Lately I’ve been finishing books at night so haha nope not writing a review right away. I USED to finish it in like the morning/afternoon/evening and then write the review??? *sighs*

Oh, I write on the phones when I have to. I gotta get things done. *nodnod*

Yes, I do know your blogging schedule… O.o Aww, thank yoooou! You’re an amazing bean too. 😉 And ahaha, you really love that post??? It was meh to me. 😛

  7. HAHAHA why do your posts always make me crack up so hard? I’m not even a book blogger but like, this is SO awesome. Um, like, I have nothing else to say because apparently the only reason I’m commenting on this post is because of your last question? what food do you currently want to devour??? (yes this is relevant have you forgotten this is a food blog) I never doubted for a minute this was a food blogger. Yeah, totally. 😀 At the moment I want to devour a CHERRY-ORANGE POPSICLE. Fancy, right?
There I go again. Spamming your beautiful blog with my completely random and irrelevant comments. Sorry?

  8. My insider blogging tip? I write posts a week in advance. Call me crazy, but I like being prepared and writing it the day before or so just won’t cut it. I’ll feel like the post is horrible, and then it’ll be a never-ending pit of FAILURE.
But I always have something to post, it’s just that I need to write them up.
But i’m not an organized person, this may seem like it though.
But, great post!! Your posts are always fun to read. 😊😊

  9. OMGOMGMOGMOMGOMOGMOMGGGGG I relate to so many of these it’s CREEPY. I agree that blogging takes sooo much effort, BUT I LOVE IT SO IT’S FINE. And gah the community is so wonderful and everyone is so niceeeee. YOU CAN TALK TO ANYONE AND THAT’S THE GREAT THING.

Omg another list lover??? OMG LISTS. I wrote a list FOR THIS COMMENT. Any excuse for a list, I MAKE ONE.
Damn, my memory is so bad that I have to review the book as soon as I finish it because I was not blessed with a sponge brain that can just absorb knowledge. Other wise, my review is vage “yeah I liked this book. . . can’t really remember why, but it was good bye!”

    1. Blogging takes SOOOO much time and effort! It’s just… a;ldfjalskdjfa;lsf. But we still love it despit that haha! YESS the community is absolutely AMAZING and sweet and supportive and gah. ❤

OMG YAS LISTS ARE AMAZINGGGG. Ahahha with my memory, I should probably review books right after I read them??? But I'm a lazzy butt. 😛

I mean I think I’m a book blogger but I don’t really know because I blog about so much other stuff too xD I hardly write book reviews. Which isn’t good. BUT I JUST DON’T HAVE THE TIME I READ TOO MANY BOOKS IN A WEEK. the best part about blogging is definitely the community. And the worst part is how much time it takes – I literally cannot keep up with it. I have midterms approaching and need to study but blogging xD And I’m craving sushi for some reason. Eh.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I think myself as a bookish blogger because I blog about books + other tings??? XD DUDE HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU READ IN A WEEK??? I read like… two. But I want to read more. *cries* And omg YOU GET ME ARIS — school is extremely important, yes, but… blogging???

  11. im literally waiting for you to find a crappy book so you can roast it bc i secretly dont think you have it in you 😉 (is that motivating enough ??)

thanks for tagging kid, its gonna be like 6 months till i get to this but it still looks like a lot of fun !! (im working on it, im working on it)

  12. I feel like it’s a blogger rule to be bad at keeping track of tags lol. I have tags from 2015 that I still haven’t gotten around yet *hides in shame*
That Ronaldo (? That’s Ronaldo right? Anyway the football player going ‘WHY’ with his hands) is an accurate representation of all bloggers everywhere. It has to be. WHO IS ABLE TO COMBINE BLOGGING WITH ALL THE OTHER STUPID RESPONISBILITIES FLAWLESSLY. If someone like that exists they need to offer a class. Seriously.
Omg yes definitely write reviews ASAP. I posted a review sometime last year that was completely USELESS because I didn’t remember anything and I just added that ‘I tried’ star fdsjfd
Omg I’m dying at your descriptions of the bloggers you tagged 😂 It kind of sounds like we’re some kind of gang or something?? 😂 Thank you for the tag and calling me the aesthetic one ❤

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Ahahhahah YESSS. Omg 2015??? Bad Michelle. XD But I get it! I have tags/awards that I don’t think I’ll ever get around to… O.o

(idk there was a caption about Messi but I honestly don’t know/care??) YESSSSS I know. Why can’t blogging and life coexist without any pain or hardships???

I just wrote a review for a book I read a month ago and I actually remembered it pretty well??? The names were beyond me tho. XD

AAHAHHAHA a lot of them are inside jokes I have with those bloggers! But YES YOU ARE SO AESTHETIC AAAAAAAH

  13. Your posts are always so entertaining and fun to read. *insert heart eyes emoji* I hope I can be like that too. And I wish I can post three times a week but life is busy here in Hong Kong. I would be glad if I can keep posting once a week.

  14. This was such a fun post to read – but all of your posts are fun to read, May, because you’re fantastic.
I am SUCH a procrastinator – do you write this word like this? I’m not sure. If not, forgive me – when it comes to writing book reviews. I read too quickly and don’t have time to write my thoughts on the day I finish a book, except if it’s on a weekend, and…I am also very lazy and I tend to write book reviews weeks after, which is NOT GOOD but I don’t know how to do it another way ahah.
Best thing about having a blog is obviously the community, worst thing is that this is a wormhole taking ALL OF YOUR TIME.

    Liked by 1 person

  15. ooh thanks for tagging me!! this was so much fun to read! i’ll most definitely be doing this tag! (and thank you for calling me aesthetic <3) i would say the worst part of being a book blogger is either having nothing to post or the freaking formatting on blogger ARGH. the best part is of course the wonderful community!! i totally agree with what you said about everyone being so kind in the blogosphere (maybe it's the fact that we all devote so much time to our blogs that eliminates the mean-ness??) oh and book reviews! i either write a hundred page thesis about a book or don't write anything at all lol. there's really no in between oops.
oook insider secrets…i'm maybe possibly thinking about switching to self-hosted wordpress…?? *shrieks* we'll see…i really want to tho.
and i totally relate to the keeping track of tags thing. i am absolutely horrible at it…

    1. aw, no problem! i look forward to reading your answers. 🙂 (you are SO aesthetic aaagh.) oh i’ve never had blogger but it sounds a little stressful haha! yess the community is so strong in the blogosphere! everyone’s so sweet and supportive, gosh. <333

OMGGGGG MADELINE PLEEEEEASE SWITCH TO SELF-HOSTED WORDPRESS!!! while wordpress has its flaws, it's SO great and i feel like the community is much stronger! (but if you don't, it's all right — your blog is already beautiful <3)

  16. Hello, May; this is totally off of what the post’s topic is, but I was wondering: how did you edit the text above the comment box? Instead of ‘Leave a Comment’ it says ‘The Mango Queen demands your opinions’. I would like to do something like that on my blog, and i haven’t figured out how to do it. So i decided to ask you. How did you do it? 🙂
