It’s Pride Month and Unsurprisingly I Have an All-Queer Book TBR to Celebrate!!!

Pride month is upon us!!

I mean, I’m pretty much just sticking to only queer books this month to celebrate, but it’s not like I’m doing anything different for it, seeing as I read a huge amount of queer books already. But might as well make it official with a post and all!!

For once in my life I actually made a realistic TBR for myself and I am genuinely excited to read all the books I have on here! (Especially one in particular…)

Beyond the official 7 books in my TBR, I know I’m also probably going to read some queer webcomics because I love them so much. I also expect that I’m still going to have more time to read so I have a small list of books at the end that I might get around to as well, depending on time/mood/accessibility!!

(Also props to me for including a MG, NA, and adult book each in my TBR?? YA who.)

RED, WHITE & ROYAL BLUE

Red, White & Royal BlueI pretty much only have one thing to say about this book: I don’t know a single friend of mine who’s read this and not rated it 5 stars, so if that isn’t a sign from the universe that I’m going to 5-star it, I don’t know what is.

In other words: if this book disappoints me, I WILL bury myself.

In better words: I am 100% confident that I will love this and that it’s going to become a new favorite of mine, because all the signs (gay and funny) point to it!!!

⇒ rep: bisexual biracial (Mexican, white) boy & gay boy in m/m relationship

WE SET THE DARK ON FIRE

We Set the Dark on Fire (We Set the Dark on Fire, #1)I have been wanting to read this book for so!! long!!! and now that I finally own it, IT’S TIME. (Unrelated note: the world’s greatest mystery is how the dust jacket can feel so disgustingly like sandpaper when the cover is the most gorgeous thing I’ve set my eyes on.)

But I’ve heard the most amazing things about this book and I genuinely cannot wait to finally read it. It just seems like a book I will absolutely adore!! (Though I’ve heard things about how much the ending hurts…)

⇒ rep: sapphic Latinx girls in f/f relationship

I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST

I Wish You All the BestI have been so, so excited for this book’s release, because it’s from a voice that we often don’t hear from (a nonbinary author writing a nonbinary MC!) and I think it’s going to be such an important and poignant read, and one I’ll absolutely love!!

I also have a feeling that I’ll really relate to this book and it’ll be a significant book for me personally. PLUS !!! LOOK AT THAT COVER !!!!! Instantly cured all depression.

⇒ rep: nonbinary male MC w/ anxiety and depression & POC (black?) boy in gq*/m relationship \\ *gq = genderqueer

THE MIGHTY HEART OF SUNNY ST. JAMES

The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. James

You all know how much I love Ashley Herring Blake for writing Girl Made of Stars, and also all the other books I’ve read by her. So there is absolutely 0 chance that I’m NOT going to read this. (The cover is simultaneously both beautiful and so adorable!!)

Plus I’ve heard that this book is like even better than everything else Ashley has written?? And considering how much I loved “everything else”, I’m confident I’m going to adore this one!!

⇒ rep: sapphic girl figuring out her identity/sexual orientation

fae divider (2)

THE LADY’S GUIDE TO PETTICOATS AND PIRACY

The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy (Montague Siblings, #2)Aroace rep is genuinely so so rare in mainstream YA (aro and ace rep is hard enough to find on their own), and because of that, I’m making it a priority to read this!!

Plus, I loved what I saw of Felicity in The Gentleman’s Guide and I can’t wait to see more of her adventures. Mackenzi Lee’s style of writing is always full of humor and makes historical fiction a lot more fun and easier to read (which is very important for me, a historical fic hater).

⇒ rep: aromantic asexual female MC, sapphic Muslim side character, bi male SC, black gay SC w/ epilepsy

fae divider (2)

VENGEFUL

Vengeful (Villains, #2)More ace rep!!! Victor Vale is asexual (it’s only in this book that it’s canon). So that + Marcella (lady villainess that I’m pretty sure I’ll be gay for) are why I’m very excited to read this book!!

Do I remember what happened in Vicious?? Zero clue. Did I struggle to read Vicious because of the writing style?? Very much so. Will Vengeful be doubly hard for me to read because of those reasons??? Absolutely. But do I care? Absolutely not.

⇒ rep: asexual male MC

ECHO AFTER ECHO

Echo After EchoIn three words (f/f murder mystery) I am 100% captivated and 100% willing to die for the book already. Each time I read the blurb to refresh my memory (was I aware before today that this was a murder mystery? no), I just get more and more excited to read it!!

I’ve also been wanting to read this for a LONG time now, so it’s definitely time. I also adore Amy Rose Capetta (she’s getting married!!!) and I can’t wait to read another book from her!

⇒ rep: Jewish bisexual female MC & Puerto Rican lesbian in f/f relationship

GIRLS OF STORM AND SHADOW

Just kidding, I don’t have an ARC of this (yet) and this is me trying to trick the universe into GIVING ME A COPY I DESERVE IT YOU COWARD.

(Also look at the amazing cover that was revealed today!!!! I LOVE MY ASIAN WARRIOR GFS)

OTHER BOOKS I MAY/MAY NOT GET TO

Labyrinth Lost (Brooklyn Brujas, #1)  The Past and Other Things That Should Stay Buried  Ace of Shades (The Shadow Game, #1)  Let's Talk About Love

  • Labyrinth Lost: I feel like a lot of the books on my TBR are contemporaries, so I want to make sure I get in some queer fantasies too! Plus this book has been on my radar for a long time, and I love supporting more queer Latinx (f/f!) rep!!
  • The Past and Other Things that Should Stay Buried: I absolutely love Shaun David Hutchinson’s books so I of course want to read his most recent book! (I don’t know the exact rep but I believe the MC is gay!)
  • Ace of Shades: I definitely put this on the list just for Ilsa, and I probably will not be reading it, but I refuse to take it off this list. (Black bi male MC (m/f) rep!!)
  • Let’s Talk About Love: As I write this post I’m just super Not in the mood to read this, but I’m putting it here in case future me IS in the mood to read it! It seems like a cute fun romance perfect for summer (with a black biromantic asexual MC!).

  2. I love this post, May! I just wrote my pride month TBR today, and I’m so excited because ALL THE GOOD BOOKS I’M GOING TO READ THIS JUNE.🌈🙌🏼Red, White, & Royal Blue is on my TBR too!! It looks amazing and so funny and I’m hyped to read it.

There are so many other books on your list I want to check out since I haven’t heard much about them! Ohh, I also really need to read The Gentlemen’s Guide to Vice and Virtue (of course I think of this right after I wrote my post, oops) so that I can read The Lady’s Guide.

Yay for being out of school! I have one and a half more days but at this point it’s basically just watching movies, so it pretty much feels like summer. I hope you have an amazing day, and happy reading!😊

    1. Ah now you’ve got me all excited to read your Pride month TBR!! If you are able to/want to buddy read RW&RB let me know… ;)

Yes, Gentleman’s Guide is so good! Super funny and in general super entertaining and fun <3 And ah congrats on almost making it to the end of school!! You've got these last few days haha

      1. I would love to buddy read!! The only problem is I have a hold on it at my library and there are already two other holds so I’m not sure when I’ll get it. I don’t want to hold you back from reading it, so if you get ahold of it earlier than I do, we can maybe just discuss it afterward instead of doing a full on buddy read. We should do some other buddy read over the summer though!!😁

Haha, thanks! And I’m really glad to hear that!

        1. Ah, I see!! I actually own a copy of it (for once in my life I purchased a book lmao) so I could read it any time I want! I was planning on reading it immediately since I’m super excited for it, but I definitely don’t mind waiting for you to get your copy <3

  3. im such a dumb gay i just read “poignant” as pregnant and i was like wait a minute i had no idea this book was about pregnancy!!! also big mood about girls of storm and shadow 😭.

i need to read the mighty heart of sunny st. james immediately!! i loved how to make a wish and i’ve fallen short on my vow to scour & devour the earth for more stories from ashley herring blake. i hope u enjoy all of these books and have a great june, may!

    1. ah lmao misreading poignant as pregnant is definitely something I would do don’t worry 😎 and aahh I love Ashley H Blake’s books so much!! Girl Made of Stars is definitely my favorite from her but How to Make a Wish is so good too <3 hope you have a great Pride, Zoe!! <3

  4. May, it makes me super happy to hear you’re reading quite a few asexual books this month, because I feel like Pride is such a hard time for the ace community. I’m hoping to pick up a couple myself this month too – The Lady’s Guide is in my TBR as well, and Tash Hearts Tolstoy.
I’ll probably be reading Red, White & Royal Blue this month along with everyone else, because of course. And hoping that my Aquarius rising still lets me enjoy this one as much as everyone else, lol. I haven’t had much luck with overhyped titles lately, but I’m praying that this will actually be one I enjoy.
I hope you have an amazing reading month! Happy Pride Month! 💞

    1. Ah, of course! I’m ace-spec myself so it wouldn’t feel right not to include some ace books (though it’d still feel wrong even if I weren’t ace-spec!). I hope you get around to reading Lady’s Guide and RW&RB this month — and good luck with RW&RB! With so many positive reviews and hardly any negative ones, there’s a much higher chance you (and I) will like it <3 Have a great Pride, Lais!!

  5. Flkhjghjhh this is such a great list! Literally everything on here is either one of my favourite books or near the top of my tbr… I think I’m going to combust if I don’t get my hands on We Set the Dark on Fire and The Mighty Heart of Sunny St James soon…! And Echo After Echo has been on my tbr or literally years and I love the author ahhh I NEED IT.

I’m not doing a pride tbr or reading exclusively queer books this month (😭😭), because I’m too reliant on my library to do that, but I already read almost entirely queer books, sooo… *shrugs*
Plus I will definitely be making a point to read some of my owned queer books. Red, White & Royal Blue (like half the blogging community 😁) and These Witches Don’t Burn for sure, probably King of Fools, and depending on my mood maybe I’ll FINALLY read They Both Die at the End…

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Aaahh Iris thank you!! And I felt the same way about We Set the Dark on Fire before I finally managed to let myself buy it — I just had to get my hands on it. And yes, I love Amy Rose Capetta! All of their books sound so good and queer.

Haha, same! I own about two books from my TBR so I’m pretty much relying entirely on my library to read everything else 😅 (Though I did craft my TBR based on what my library had!!) Ooh, I hope you like These Witches Don’t Burn! Gay witch books always excite me lmao. And I hope you like TBDATE if you end up reading it — I loved that one!!

  6. Hell yes for an all queer tbr for June!! I actually plan to do that too, but being on brand as the slowest reader alive, I still really wanna get through some more Asian books that were on my tbr for May. Though I absolutely will shoot myself if I don’t read rwrb in June because it’s been raved about so much and I absolutely have to see what all the hype is about. OH YES PLEASE READ WE SET THE DARK ON FIRE. I love Dani and Carmen so much, and I just feel like that book isn’t getting enough love. I Wish You All the Best is also right up there with RWRB as one of my must-reads for June. It’s really sad that it’s one of the few books with non-binary rep that’re on my tbr though. And I read Lady’s Guide last year and it was so very enjoyable! Felicity is one of the sassiest main characters out there and I think the ace spectrum rep in that book is one of the best out there (out of the few we do have sigh).

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh, I definitely get what you mean about wanting to read more Asian books from May! I think I’m gonna round out to reading about half of what I hoped to read for APAH Month, but that was expected 😅 And yay, so many people have said they’re planning on reading RW&RB for June and it makes me happy to hear!

Ah I’m so glad you love We Set the Dark on Fire!! I definitely have been hearing a lot less hype for it than expected, but those who’ve read it seemed to absolutely adore it <3 And aahh I'm so glad that the ace rep in Lady's Guide was done well! Definitely more excited to read it now <3 Hope you have a great Pride and happy reading, Caitlin!!

  7. I’m currently reading RW&RB and enjoying it VERY MUCH. I also just finished I Wish You All the Best which was wonderful and I had Big Non-Binary Feelings. I probably should have saved them for June but, eh, never mind. I’ve been meaning to read Let’s Talk About Love for so long, it sounds awesome! Hopefully next month. :) I hope you enjoy!

    1. I’m so glad you’re loving RW&RB, Eve!!! I am SO excited to read it. And ahhh it makes me so so happy to hear you had those Big Enby Feelings about IWYATB ☺💗 I hope you get around to reading whatever you plan on reading in June!! <3

  8. well me and ju are hopefully reading reign of the fallen for pride, and the rest…i honestly don’t know. the only unread books on my shelf that are queer; furyborn (but yikes to the author), girls made of snow and glass (ive tried to read this so many times but i failed) light years by kass morgan (i THINK it’s queer) so as you can see my options are v limited. im literally not in the mood for any of those 3 books so?? i don’t know what im going to read if im honest! but on kindle i have rw&rb SO CAN WE BR RED WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE??? also why you got get my hopes up by putting ace of shades on ur list. (im insecure about friends reading my fave books because like damn they probably wont like it so stay away from my baby ace of shades pls and thanks jk)

    1. Reign the Fallen!! I’ve been wanting to read that but also haven’t made it a priority lmao. And oh yeah fjdlskfjsld definitely skip out on Furyborn, the book sucks and so does the author now 🙃🙃 and yes I would love to BR RW&RB!!! I actually am gonna save it for later in the month since I wanted to BR it with someone else who’s waiting on a library copy if you’re okay waiting too??? and fhsdfhsdhfds fine I’ll stay away from Ace of Shades if you stay away from The Foxhole Court 😎

  12. I’m so excited for a lot of these!! Especially We Set the Dark on Fire, I Wish You All the Best and Echo After Echo; Amy Rose Capetta is an author whose works ALL sound fascinating, but I still haven’t gotten to any of them. :( The Lady Guide was a bit disappointing for me 😭 but I do hope you’ll love it!! Let’s Talk About Love is so fluffy and cute and precious – if you’re in the mood for that, do pick it up. :) Hope you’ll get to read all of these! (I’m genuinely in awe of anyone who can follow through on a tbr, I’m the biggest mood reader, sadly.)

    1. You’re so right, Amy Rose Capetta’s books all sound so good (and gay)! I’ve only read The Brilliant Death which was really good, but I’m hoping to read a lot more of her work <3 And ahh I'm sorry to hear that Lady's Guide disappointed you! 😔 And oh god, I had a TBR last month, and it's killing me to have to stick to another one this month, even if they're all books I'm excited for. I'm definitely a huge mood reader as well 🙈

  13. I am 100% sure you will love Red White and Royal Blue too!! Lady’s Guide was one of my favorite books of last year – slash all time – so hopefully you like it :D And I Wish You All the Best is also on my June tbr! I’m trying to read as many queer books as possible too :) GOOD LUCK with getting an ARC for Girls of Storm and Shadow!!!

  14. I hope you just ADORE Red, White & Royal Blue as much as I did! I read it this May and not jokes stayed up until 3 or 4am two nights in a row to finish it! I don’t necessarily have a Pride-dedicated TBR for June because I read a lot of LGBT+ books anyway, but two that are currently sitting on my pile for next month are We Are the Ants and Sometime After Midnight!! <3

    1. Oh I’m 100% sure RW&RB is going to become a new favorite, or something like it! All the signs are pointing towards it <3 And oh, I loved We Are the Ants (and I've been meaning to reread it!). I haven't read Sometime After Midnight but the cover is so pretty haha

  15. your tbr sounds so nice! good luck! ^^
I’m buried in textbooks studying for my exams and evaluations, so I’ll likely not start anything else, but I’m currently reading the priory of the orange tree (and if I do finish it by the end of June, that’s a miracle)
