My Most Anticipated Books Releasing August Through December ft. Me Being Way Too Excited For Everything

Hi, I’m back to add more books to your TBR!!

Having to go through my Goodreads shelf to make this post was EXCRUCIATING, because there are just so many amazing books coming out this year (or, more accurately, this last half of the year) and I just want to read them all right now. But here is a list of my most anticipated books releasing in the last half-ish of 2019!!

To compensate for the fact that I got overexcited and included July in my previous anticipated releases post, I’m doubling the amount of books I feature in September and October!! (No, this is 100% NOT because I’m indecisive and can’t choose out of all the amazing books releasing those months.)

Note: There are a few non-YA books here; Gideon the Ninth, Ninth House, and Queen of the Conquered are adult, The Tyrant’s Tomb is middle grade!

AUGUST

All the Bad Apples  Ziggy, Stardust and Me  House of Salt and Sorrows  The Downstairs Girl

All the Bad Apples (Aug 1) ✧ I didn’t fully Love the only book I’ve read from Moïra Fowley-Doyle, but I really enjoyed her writing style and and the atmosphere and aesthetic of her books. This book sounds super mysterious—curses, missing sisters—and I’m dying for all the sapphic rep in it! (And the cover is literally to die for.)

Ziggy, Stardust and Me (Aug 6) ✧ I’m so blessed to be getting a copy of this from Penguin!! First of all: THAT COVER, and second of all, I feel like this book is definitely going to mess me up and destroy my emotions (I know it’s painful and heavy). I have a hard time with historical fiction so hopefully the gayness of this makes me love it!!!

House of Salt and Sorrows (Aug 6) ✧ This sounds like a super dark and mysterious fantasy and that is my THING. I hear it’s a Twelve Dancing Princesses retelling, and I loved the Barbie movie of that story as a child and honestly… I’m expecting this book to be Exactly like the Barbie movie. I’m joking. Please know I’m joking.

The Downstairs Girl (Aug 13) ✧ I don’t love historical fiction, but I’ll make some exceptions for the gay and the Asian hist fic books. This one fits into the latter! The blurb mentions a “notorious criminal” and the main character has been described on Goodreads as a “badass journalist girl” and I already love them. (And I won this in a giveaway and I’m super excited!!)

SEPTEMBER

Caster  There Will Come a Darkness (Age of Darkness, #1)  How to Be Remy Cameron  Kingdom of Souls  Gideon the Ninth (The Ninth House, #1)

Caster (Sep 3) ✧ Despite how much I… dislike this cover (I’m so sorry I just don’t find it appealing in Any way), this book sounds AMAZING and I will always support Asian authors!! This is an urban fantasy featuring gangs, magic, and a tournament, and if you don’t think that sounds like my THING, you are wrong.

There Will Come a Darkness (Sep 3) ✧ Diverse squad of POC and queer characters??? Please sign me up immediately. I literally don’t have to say anything else about this, because just THAT is enough to know that this is my exact taste. All of it. It’s this book.

How to be Remy Cameron (Sep 3) ✧ I still sadly haven’t gotten the chance to read Running with Lions, the author’s debut, but both that and this one seem so good. His covers are super cute and I think his books are just as cute (as well as important) and this one just sounds like a really great story about finding your identity!

Kingdom of Souls (Sep 3) ✧ I don’t COMPLETELY love this cover, but the girl on it can choke me. Anyways. This is a book about magic, and the main character has to sacrifice her life in order to gain power, and I’m kind of in love with that concept. And this is set in a West African-inspired world, and I’m loving seeing more Black girls in fantasy!

Gideon the Ninth (Sep 10) ✧ This is one of my most anticipated out of this whole list,  and I realized I sent my ARC request to the wrong Tor. I’m not smart!!! I regret preordering it now, because I’ll always prefer getting books for free, and I’m nervous that I may not like it and that I might have wasted my money. (I’ve been seeing more disappointed reviews lately.) But it’s a hilarious book about lesbian necromancers and I’m 95% sure I’m going to love it!!

The Stars and the Blackness Between Them  The Infinite Noise  SLAY  The Tyrant's Tomb (The Trials of Apollo, #4)  The Bone Houses

The Stars and the Blackness Between Them (Sep 17) ✧ This is another book I’m blessed to be getting from Penguin!! First of all, I would die a thousand times for that cover. Second of all, this is a f/f romance between two Black girls and!!! oh my god!!!!! I’m just going to leave this quote from the blurb here: “the story of two black girls […] finding love and happiness in a world that seems determined to deny them both”.

The Infinite Noise (Sep 17) ✧ Okay, the cover of this book is GORGEOUS!!! I recently started listening to The Bright Sessions, which is the podcast that this book is about (the author is the creator!) and I’m loving it. I’m super excited for this because I know it’s m/m and there’s some mental health rep!! (And I already screamed “YOU’RE GAY” at Caleb in the podcast, so clearly going to have a good time with this book.)

SLAY (Sep 24) ✧ I’m so blessed to have an ARC of this and I’m super excited to dive into it! It’s about a Black gamer and dealing with racism as this game is accused of anti-white discrimination, and she has to learn how to “harness what it means to be unapologetically Black in a world intimidated by Blackness”. (I LOVE IT.)

The Tyrant’s Tomb (Sep 24) ✧ The Burning Maze killed me and made me cry, and moving forward with this series is going to hurt so much because of what happened (yes I just teared up a little thinking about it shut up I’m fragile). And even though this isn’t my favorite Rick series since I’m not really in love with Apollo’s humor, I’m still excited!!

The Bone Houses (Sep 24) ✧ This is horror, which is not usually what I read, but it sounds so good!! There are bone houses (basically zombies) that are a result of a curse, and this story follows two characters figuring out the curse, and their own identities. I loved Emily Lloyd-Jones’ character work in her previous book, so I’m excited for this one!

OCTOBER

Ninth House  Rebel (Legend, #4)  Crier's War (Crier's War, #1)  Orpheus Girl  The Never Tilting World (The Never Tilting World, #1)

Ninth House (Oct 1) ✧ This is the book I’m the MOST excited for, and I don’t think I’ve seen any negative reviews about it yet?? I love Leigh’s writing so so much, and this one sounds like a book I’ll really adore. I would buy it because I love Leigh, but I just really don’t like the cover (and my mom would be terrified of it because of the snake). Regardless, I’m 99% sure this is going to be a new favorite!

Rebel (Oct 1) ✧ The Legend series has such a special place in my heart, and I don’t exactly know why? (Besides the fact that I just LOVE it.) I can’t wait to see the rest of June and Day’s story, even though I WILL cry if Marie Lu hurts them more than she already has, and I’m super excited to see Eden too!!

Crier’s War (Oct 1) ✧ I have an eARC of this for a blog tour and I CANNOT wait to start reading it!! It’s a slowburn f/f fantasy and I know so many of my friends have loved it, and I know I’m going to join them. Also, this cover is absolutely gorgeous and I would die for it. I can’t stop staring at it.

Orpheus Girl (Oct 8) ✧ This is going to be so hard to read, but so important. This is a retelling of the myth of Orpheus about two girls who come together during conversion therapy and… I know it’s going to be extremely painful. But this author is a poet, so I think her writing is going to be beautiful, and I think I’m really going to love it.

The Never Tilting World (Oct 15) ✧ I love the idea of this fantasy world split into two realms—one of night, and one of sun. This book also features sisters, and I will devour anything with sisters (because I’m one!). On top of that, there’s queer Asian girl rep and no, I’m not crying.

Tarnished Are the Stars  I Hope You Get This Message  A River of Royal Blood (A River of Royal Blood, #1)  The Light at the Bottom of the World (Light the Abyss, #1)  Full Disclosure

Tarnished Are the Stars (Oct 15) ✧ Ownvoices queer science fantasy!!!! I know this features some aro/ace-spec rep and I’m really excited, since that’s so rare, especially in SFF. And I think there’s a f/f romance too, which is also super exciting to see in SFF!! The cover is also really appealing to me and I love it.

I Hope You Get This Message (Oct 22) ✧ Gay science fiction can I get a HELL YEAH. (Also involves some space so space gays can I get a HELL YEAH.) The MC is also (ownvoices) Pakistani and!! I’m so excited. I have this feeling that this is going to be one of those subtly beautiful stories that you can’t get out of your head and I’m so, so excited.

A River of Royal Blood (Oct 29) ✧ This book is set in a North African-inspired world and features magic and assassins, so add that on top of the literally STUNNING cover and I’m drooling over this one!! And you know what I said about how I’d die for siblings in books? Well this one features a fight-to-the-death sibling rivalry and I cannot wait.

The Light at the Bottom of the World (Oct 29) ✧ Okay, first of all, I will never get over how the main character’s last name is McQueen and she’s a RACER (I’ve never watched Cars, or Cars 2, or Cars 3, but I still find this deeply amusing). Second of all, this sounds so unique. A little terrifying, because sea creatures are scary, but unique!!

Full Disclosure (Oct 29) ✧ I’ve heard the most amazing things about this one, and I think it’s just going to be… a really, really beautiful book. I’ve never read a book with a HIV-positive character before, and I have a feeling this one is just going to be so poignant and well-written and exactly what YA needs.

NOVEMBER

A Thousand Fires  Call Down the Hawk (Dreamer, #1)  Queen of the Conquered  Color Outside the Lines  Blood Heir (Blood Heir, #1)  Eight Will Fall

A Thousand Fires (Nov 5) ✧ Modern Illiad retelling! Gangs in an alternate San Francisco! Lots of diverse rep (African, Hawaiian, Chinese/Filipina, lesbian, bi)! This sounds absolutely amazing!! It’s also about vengeance for a younger sibling, and I DIE for any kind of sibling rep.

Call Down the Hawk (Nov 5) ✧ Okay, to be completely honest, I’ve never been a huge Stan of The Raven Cycle, only like a mild fan of it. But I absolutely love Ronan and I’m excited to see this book from his perspective!! Even though I hate this book cover and think it’s ugly!!!

Queen of the Conquered (Nov 12) ✧ The main character of this can control minds, and this book is about colonial oppression, and I think it’s going to be absolutely Amazing. There’s also a lot of murder mentioned in the blurb and I’m all for darkness and death in fantasies!!!

Color Outside the Lines (Nov 12) ✧ This is an anthology about interracial and queer relationships, and there are so many of my favorite authors in the lineup! (Hello, Anna-Marie McLemore, I love you.) I always really enjoy anthologies, and I think this one is going to be a really poignant read.

Blood Heir (Nov 19) ✧ This was originally going to be published earlier in the year, and there has been a lot of controversy over it. I’m still really excited to read it (with all the new edits that have been made!) and I think it’s going to be a fantastic book! I am 100% ready for this dark and brutal Anastasia retelling.

Eight Will Fall (Nov 26) ✧ I saw people comparing this to Six of Crows and I don’t know how accurate that is, BUT it does feature a squad of eight criminals and sounds dark, and that’s all I need to know before claiming that I’m going to love it. Criminals? Character squads? Dark fantasy?? That’s my entire book taste right there. If it’s gay, I might actually combust.

DECEMBER

The Weight of a Soul  Children of Virtue and Vengeance (Legacy of Orïsha, #2)  Dangerous Alliance  Hearts, Strings, and Other Breakable Things

The Weight of a Soul (Dec 3) ✧ This book is the only one I’m actually interested in on this list of December releases, and for good reason! It’s about Norse mythology, and it sounds really dark and brutal. Plus, the cover is gorgeous, and the author of this was the one who wrote a gay Artemis book, and I trust anyone who writes gay Artemis books!

Children of Virtue and Vengeance (Dec 3) ✧ I haven’t read Children of Blood and Bone yet, but because there are barely? any other? December releases?? I’m putting it on this list. I mean, if not for how amazing the first book sound, then for how beautiful this cover is!!!

Dangerous Alliance (Dec 3) ✧ This is historical fiction (specifically, a Jane Austen-esque historical romance), and do I normally anticipate a historical fiction book? No, not really. But again, I’m limited here!!! And I’m trying my best to find some decent-sounding books for this month because goddamn it, where are they.

Hearts, Strings, and Other Breakable Things (Dec 17) ✧ I can’t even pretend to be remotely interested in this one, because it sounds like a very typical heterosexual love triangle book that’s already been done before. But if that’s something that interests you, then great!! Put it on your TBR!!! It sounds… so good!!!!

shall we chat

did you find any releases you haven’t heard of on this list? what are books YOU’RE anticipating this last half of the year? do you know any good December releases (because I clearly don’t)??

      1. YES!!! tho haha me in the corner who is willing to try basically any gay book ngl
I was actually a little disappointed??? It reminded me why I don’t read thrillers/mystery haha. Definitely try it though!!!! The cover is perfect for the book. Yes, and while it only ended up being a 3.5 for me I think that was because of the hype??

    1. I’m sorry Kelly, but me adding to your TBR is exactly what I hope to hear 😎💕 And yes I’m super excited for Ninth House!! And I actually didn’t know much about HoSaS before writing this post, but reading the blurb made me realize how good it sounded 😍

  2. Aaagh, I’m so excited for like ALL of these books! I’m so happy to hear that The Blood Heir is going to be released after all! The concept sounds super cool, and I was pretty excited about it when I first heard it was coming out. I cannot wait for There Will Come a Darkness! If I’m being totally honest, I was really excited about it for maybe a few months based solely on the cover before even finding out what it was about. Which is super typical of me, but still. I’m very excited.

And The Tyrant’s Tomb! (I may just end up listing half the books in your post in just this comment because I’m so psyched for all of them) I originally thought it was coming out in May for some reason and was annoyed when it didn’t. I agree it’s not my favorite Riordan series, but I live for all the cameos by the OG characters.

    1. Blood Heir sounds super good!! Plus the author seems so sweet <3 And oh god I didn't know about There Will Come a Darkness until like June, and the cover was definitely the biggest reason why I put it on my TBR (like you I had no idea what it was about until very recently 🙈)

Yeah I feel like for some reason Tyrant's Tomb was supposed to be published earlier?? I don't know, but I don't usually prioritize the Trials of Apollo books when they come out so it wouldn't have mattered to me lmao. But YES the cameos are honestly my favorite part (even though the last cameo ended horribly 😭)

  3. Needless to say, almost all of these books are on my TBR and I’M SO EXCITED AHHH. Particularly for the really hyped ones, like Ninth House and Gideon the Ninth. I actually have an arc of The Never Tilting World and I really need to get to it! But sadly, I’m currently reading Children of Blood and Bone and I’m not liking it. I probably won’t read the sequel! Also, I hope school isn’t being too hard on you, since I think you just started it. I just started too and my mental health is so down and I don’t know what to do haha, so I have no advice. We can talk to each other about it if you’d like to though!!

    1. Yes, it’s very typical of me to have super hyped books as my most anticipated releases lmao!! (And I can’t tell whether I hate or love how the series Gideon the Ninth is part of is literally called “Ninth House”.) Aah I’m sorry you didn’t like COBAB as much! I think I’ve heard mixed things about it, but the cover is just so gorgeous and makes me want to read it lmao! And thank you so much, I’m struggling to find the energy to do all this blogging stuff, but I’m slowly making my way through it <3

What is with all these BEAUTIFUL covers?! Some of these books are just downright sexy like damnnnnn.

    1. Oh wow, getting your TBR down to 18 books?? I wish I could get even close to that but… [stares at 800+ book long Goodreads TBR] And yes, the covers for all these 2019 releases are all so gorgeous?? I can’t wait to see 2020’s covers, from the looks of this year’s!!
