I’m broken.
I have no other way to begin this post. You all know Percy Jackson is my number 1, so you can imagine how I reacted to the news about the series being adapted as a Disney+ 5-season series!!
I knew whatever I posted next on my blog had to be PJO related, because I cannot shut up about PJO now. I’ve broken a dam. So I looked for PJO book tags online, and I found two. Neither of them were exactly the type I was looking for, though, so I thought… why not make my own Percy Jackson book tag!!
Some notes:
- I’m very nervous about posting this because I’ve never made a tag, and even though it’s just a tag I don’t want to do PJO any wrong!!!
- I decided to make drawings on MS Paint for each character/prompt as a joke, except the joke’s on me because it took at least 12 HOURS. (This whole post took over 16 hours probably.) So you better appreciate them for the bad pixelated designs they are!
- This is spoiler-free; you don’t have to have read all the books to do it! If you’ve read the books, you’ll hopefully understand each prompt’s meaning, but if not, they’re vague and I don’t elaborate so you won’t be spoiled.
- Thanks Prag and May for helping with ideas and offering me emotional support!!!
RULES
- Thank the person who tagged you and link to their post.
- Link to the original creator: May @ Forever and Everly! Please note that she made the artwork/graphics, if using them. *If you care about graphics having a clear quality, make it big enough so that the dimensions are 1103 x 175!
- Match books with the given prompts.
- Tag however many people as wanted!
- Copy-paste the rules and list of prompts.
No one is surprised to see me naming The Poppy War for this! It was the first book I read this year, and it’s the only book I’ve rated 5 stars so far. I’ve thought about it probably almost every day since I first read it, and it’s just an absolute masterpiece. Fang Runin step on me!!
[resists the temptation to name The Poppy War again]
I’m still in shock over how well-written The Electric Heir was (and also The Fever King). The characters and the journeys they go on in this sequel are so painful but good, and Victoria developed them, along with the plot, somehow even better than I expected!
(Though Grover is an underrated character in my opinion, and wrongly so, I didn’t want to use the word “underrated” about books because I don’t believe underestimate books and instead just don’t know of them.)
I’ll always be angry that The Stars and the Blackness Between Them isn’t more well-known, because it is SO good. It’s written beautifully, both in terms of the prose and the story, and it honestly feels like you’re going through an otherworldly experience when you read it. Plus!! Black girls in a f/f romance!!!
When I started reading We Hunt the Flame, I was extraordinarily bored and tempted to DNF it even though I hadn’t even made it to 25%. I kept going, expecting I might be entertained by writing a hate review of it, but it took a complete 180 and I ended up really enjoying it!! (Usually, though, I don’t read books I think I’ll hate.)
I’ve only read A Wish in the Dark once, but I am very confident in choosing it as a book that’ll feel like home! First of all, it just feels so warm and welcoming as a MG book. But the Thai representation means so much to me, and anything involved Thai culture will feel like home for me!
I just reviewed this book, but The Henna Wars has such a close sister relationship and I fell in love with it! It was such a central part of the book, and it touched me to see how supportive they were of each other. And I also love how this relationship was included especially to show the importance of family in Bengali culture!
Usually, people give positive books for this kind of prompt. However, because I’m unique and original, I’m saying Hot Dog Girl for this! I hated this book; it felt like ten minutes had passed as I tried to force myself to read it, but when I checked the clock, only one minute had gone by. I truly don’t know how I managed to get through it!!
Sadie was a book I hadn’t heard of at all until the week it released, and glowing reviews just came flooding in. It’s loved by so many of my friends and trusted reviewers (especially the audiobook!), and it is so well-deserved because it is absolutely incredible.
There’s absolutely no way I’m not saying Percy Jackson for this. I’m pretty sure that at this point, I could reread it every month and not get tired of it!! I’d still end up crying over it (for no reason other than the fact that I just love the books), and I’ll always be comforted by the characters, story, setting, and magic.
I’m planning on picking up Steel Crow Saga next month, specifically because I think I’m going to love it and 5-star it!! I’ve been wanting to venture into more adult, and I’ve only heard the absolute best things about this book. Plus, it seems to feature lots of things I love (f/f romance and Asians… I don’t have to say anything else).
If I could read The Burning God and see how Rin’s (and everyone else’s) story ends… I can die happy. It also comes out on my birthday so universe please do the thing and give me serotonin!
I also wouldn’t mind being able to read Darius the Great Deserves Better. I’ve convinced many people to pick up the first book, so I think I would be an excellent sequel promoter @ Penguin!!
There are a LOT of books I could say for this, but I want to talk about a book I don’t mention often: Summer of Salt! It’s a really beautiful f/f urban fantasy that just makes me think of gentle waves lapping against the shore. (Though be aware it deals with rape!) Melanie @ Mel to the Any absolutely loving it was what made me pick it up.
I’m going to be predictable and say Red, White & Royal Blue. It’s one of the few books that have managed to capture modern humor so perfectly, through dialogue and inner monologue and text messages! It’s just so perfect and I swear I laughed out loud every other 5 pages.
(Honorable mentions: Foolish Hearts and In Other Lands.)
I read When the Moon Was Ours all the way back in 2017 (we don’t talk about 2017 me…), and though I cannot completely remember what it was about, I still have the fondest memories of it! It was the first Anna-Marie book I read, and it’s beautiful and so well-written with the most compelling characters.
I was so afraid for how The Gilded Wolves would end, because there was a part where it seemed like everything was gonna go to hell. And good news! It did not completely go to hell!! Unfortunately, there is still something that happens that completely ruins you. So look forward to that if you haven’t yet read it!
(This is the most obscure prompt and I’m really hoping it’s not too obscure!!)
I’m so sorry for associating the trashfire that is The Foxhole Court with someone so great as Reyna but… there is truly no other book that fits this better than TFC! I hate it with every fiber of in my being and it can rot in hell, especially with all its problematic aspects, but I still love it so much for some strange reason. Believe me, I wish I didn’t!
Did I include this just to hate on Octavian? Absolutely. (I wanted this tag to be a mostly positive one, since all the characters don’t deserve to be associated with negativity, but Octavian most definitely does!)
There are a lot of books I would like to punch, but a recent one is Come Tumbling Down. It’s part of a series that everyone loves and I do not, and this fifth installment was the absolute worst. It was 200 pages of barely any plot or character development, until the very end, and it felt like such a useless book!!!
I couldn’t make this tag without making a prompt for the best fictional relationship out there… Percabeth really defined what romance is!!
I’m very tempted to just cite Percy and Annabeth as the best romance, because honestly no one can do it like them. But I’ll go ahead and be Typical May and name Kaz and Inej from Six of Crows as another excellent romance! The yearning… the tension… absolutely delicious.

I know most other tag creators don’t do this, but I thought it would be cute and fun (for me) to keep track of your posts doing this tag!! Also, it’s like an extension of myself with the amount of time I spent, so I shallowly want to see the results of it.

This tag is so so amazing May!! Wow, the prompts, the graphics, the books you chose, everything about this is pure perfection!! Also I went to the link at the beginning and read all your tweets about the whole thing and now I’m emotional again🥺
The fact that I didn’t have The Poppy War on my TBR until now…a monstrosity, but it’s okay I added it. Also yes oh my gosh Grover is so underrated I love him and his place in the OG trio!! You’re so right, RW&RB was hilarious, the group dynamics are unmatched. And I feel like if Percabeth couldn’t be the answer for Percabeth, Kaz and Inej are definitely deserving of that spot, haha!
Thank you so much for tagging me!! I love talking about PJO with you(: I CAN’T WAIT TO DO THIS!! I’m going to start writing it today, I’ve been feeling very Uninspired but this has just given me a massive wave of inspiration because I love it so much so thank you for creating this and putting so much work into it you’re the best!!💖
