For once I am here today not to love an Asian fantasy but… to hate on it.
(The crying in the distance is me! It is always me but especially today!)
I was so very excited to read The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea, and things actually started out well in the first few 100 or so pages! But then it took a turn for the worst and I ended up disliking it a lot more than I enjoyed it.
So I’m here today to talk about the things I did and didn’t like about this book! (There’s a lot more I didn’t like, of course.) I rarely hate the ARCs I get so I feel kind of terrible about not liking this one, but I received it for reviewing purposes and review I shall!!

Let me tell you a story.
It’s not very interesting, but we’re gonna roll with it!
One day, all the way back in 2018 when I was a gross little thing, I found out about a Thai-inspired Middle Grade fantasy releasing in 2020. I think I might have teared up about the Thai rep or done something else equally pathetic (I say, as if I don’t cry over not being in Thailand).
It felt like such a long time to wait for a book that I thought would steal my heart, but now that day is FINALLY here!!
Today is the day I will convince you to read A Wish in the Dark at least some time in the future or die. Because I need to make as many people read this beautiful, godly book, and understand why it makes me so happy beyond Thai rep. It’s a phenomenal book and I genuinely am so excited for the whole world, especially young (Thai) kids, to be able to read it now.

Victoria Lee said I’m gonna give the gays everything they want but also break their hearts a little. as a treat.
Some of you may recall last year when I talked a lot about The Fever King, an epic dystopian-ish sci-fi fantasy about magic and plagues and two boys in love. It’s one of my favorites, so when I was offered the chance to read and review the sequel, I was beyond ecstatic!
Today I’m here to talk about (aka gush over) The Electric Heir. It, as stated, includes gays and heartbreak, and it was the perfect sequel and ending to Noam and Dara’s story.
(Also bonus! You can get The Fever King for 99 cents right now on Kindle US!)
This review is spoiler-free, for both book 1 and book 2.

I’m back on brand today with another Asian fantasy!!
If you’ve been a reader of my blog long enough, you’ll know that one of the things I cherish and champion the most is Asian books, especially Asian fantasies. This time around, though, it’s a bit different, because it’s a genre I don’t usually review: Middle Grade!
I have a soft spot for Middle Grade books, though I don’t read nearly enough of them, so when the lovely Shealea announced a book tour for The Dragon Warrior at Caffeine Book Tours, I knew I had to sign up.
Today I’m excited to review The Dragon Warrior (and feature some photos, quotes, and an aesthetic) and talk about all the things I loved about it!! It’s one of my most anticipated releases, and I hope it’s one of yours too.

I’m not usually a big romance obsessor, but this one really nailed it.
Slowburn, enemies to lovers, AND f/f?? Nina Varela really said “May rights” and “gay rights” with this one, because I love all of those romance tropes and she executed them perfectly in her debut.
If it isn’t already clear, I absolutely adored Crier’s War, and today I’m hopefully going to convince you to pick it up! (If not for everything I mention in my review, then certainly for this actual sent-from-heaven book cover.)
Thank you so much to Karina @ Afire Pages for allowing me to be a part of the blog tour for this amazing book! I’m a day late in posting this, and I’m so extremely sorry.
