COVID-19, the taboo word on everyone’s mind right now.
(It’s taboo for me, because I don’t like to think about it.)
It’s a very scary situation right now, and I’m keeping everyone in my thoughts. I hope you’re all as safe and healthy as you can be, and staying home if you can! Please take care of yourselves now more than ever!
But among one of the effects of this is that authors have had to cancel multiple events that would help them promote their books, so! I wanted to write a post of some books releasing soon that I think deserve your attention and support. I tried to include only books with less than 10,000 adds on Goodreads, because I think promoting lesser hyped books has more of an effect than promoting the super hyped ones!
I’m only doing March through July because 1) I was supposed to make a list of releases in January – June but obviously I’m the worst and didn’t, and 2) I’m fiercely holding on to the hope that this will all calm down by July, which is when I’m scheduled to go to Thailand!!
ALSO: I completely forgot about this on my blogiversary, but I always like to do a yearly FEEDBACK SURVEY to help decide how to improve my blog for you guys, so if you could fill it out I would really appreciate it!!!
Anna K (Mar 3) ✧ This is a modern retelling (featuring an Asian girl!!) of Anna Karenina, which I’ve never read because I
am not like other girls don’t like classics. But the cover is so pretty and I’ve heard pretty good things about it, and I know a lot of people love Anna Karenina, so I’m excited to read it!
Harley in the Sky (Mar 10) ✧ I was uh on the street team for this one and accidentally never looked at the facebook group after the first few times, but I love all of Akemi Dawn Bowman’s works and I’m beyond excited to read this one. I’ve heard that it’s about mental health and family, and knowing her previous books, I’m definitely going to cry.
A Phoenix First Must Burn (Mar 10) ✧ This is an amazing anthology with stories from Black authors like Elizabeth Acevedo, Dhonielle Clayton, and Somaiya Daud. They are all fantasy or sci-fi, and they all center around Black women or non-conforming people!
A Wish in the Dark (Mar 24) ✧ My review of this wonderful book is going to go up soon, and I sorely wished that more people have heard of it, because it truly is a masterpiece! The story, characters, and messages are all so well-written, and the Thai rep it offers only makes it better.
The Lucky Ones (Apr 7) ✧ This one features survivors of a school shooting, and her name is May so she’s obviously superior. I think it’s going to be absolutely heartbreaking, especially as someone who lives in the Country of School Shootings, and I can’t wait to sob!
Little Universes (Apr 7) ✧ Heather Demetrios writes really poignant stories, at least from what I’ve read of her (Bad Romance), and I’m ready for her next book. This cover is gorgeous and the story sounds amazing and the main character is named Mae again so I’m going to love it.
The Silence of Bones (Apr 21) ✧ I don’t enjoy historical fiction usually, but this one just looks like it’s going to be absolutely amazing, at least from what I’ve heard other people gushing about. It seems haunting and beautiful and I better not hate it or I’ll cry.
Incendiary (Apr 28) ✧ I’ve been straying away from YA fantasy and more towards adult fantasy lately but this one sounds amazing. (I’m drawn to magical abilities like stealing memories.) Also bonus for Latinx rep!!
The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea (May 5) ✧ I have an ARC of this and I’m so excited to read it!! QPOC pirates is the only thing that I need to know to make me want to read it (and going along with the excited-for-rep thing, it features an enby MC in fantasy!). Plus the cover is so gorgeous, though the face in the sea makes me laugh.
The Henna Wars (May 12) ✧ This book features rival businesses leading to two girls falling in love, and it’s by an author I adore on Twitter, so I’m extra excited to read it! I’ve also heard it features a really good sister relationship, which I really really love.
I Kissed Alice (May 26) ✧ I am a slut for competitive arts schools. I haven’t read many books with them but I just know it. So that plus sapphic girls make a book I’m highly anticipating! And the cover’s also just adorable!
The Gilded Ones (May 26) ✧ First of all, the cover!!! She is gorgeous!!! Second of all, the blurb reads “army of girls”, and I am just so happy with the increase of strong girls of color with magic in books. Also I’m unfortunately a sucker for books tackling eugenics (yes a part of me is still stuck in that 2012 dystopian phase).
You Should See Me in a Crown (Jun 2) ✧ The author was so very kind to send me an ARC of this, and I’m so excited about it!! I will happily take all the QPOC (sapphic!!!) rep because we need more of it, and I’ve also heard really great things about it. Also it’s short and therefore my deteriorating attention span will not suffer.
A Song Below Water (Jun 2) ✧ This book features a Black siren and I’m very excited because I’ve read very few books about sirens. I’ve heard that the prose in this is really beautiful (just like that cover), and I know it’s going to deal with a lot of important issues, like misogynoir.
A Song of Wraiths and Ruin (Jun 2) ✧ West African fantasy!!! Beautiful girl on a beautiful cover!!! Enemies to lovers with actual death involved!! It’s actually described as “a collision course to murder each other despite their growing attraction” so of course I’m going to love it.
Forest of Souls (Jun 23) ✧ I will literally never stop talking about Asians in fantasy, and this is one of those books. The author says that it’s based on Hmong shamanism and also includes themes of loyalty, self-worth, and female friendship, and that is just everything I want and more!!! (Plus the main character is a spy-in-training.)
what (lesser hyped) books are you looking forward to? give me some adult releases, I’ve been the worse at keeping up with books in general but especially adult! have you been lucky enough to read any of these yet? and I hope you’re staying safe at home!!!
p.s. clicky clicky :o)
